Interesting. We had a fella here a few months ago that was going to build a wing that ran on charcoal. Have not seen him for a bit though.

I remember seeing pics of WW 2 cars that burned charcoal but they had huge boilers on the roof.

Not boilers, gassifiers. They heat the charcoal up and cause it to emit wood gas which is fed into the carburettor instead of air. Since the wood gas is combustible no other fuel is needed.

One thing that confuses me, (ONLY ONE!!! :IDTS: ) and I'm obviously not a scientist, is why can't cars and bikes run on water?
Water is made up from hydrogen, an explosive gas, and oxygen which will fuel a fire, and yet when they are combined as in H2O, that is what we use world wide to put out fires. Now if someone could invent a small unit that separates water into those two elements and use them to run a car/bike, then there would be no need to worry about the oil running out. Maybe someone has but the Arabs have paid them off! :flamer

I daresay someone as knowledgeable as Mike Nixon will submit a 40 page explanation as to why it isn't possible........yet! :lol:

Had a rant before on electric cars which the politicians seem to want, by 2040, but just don't believe it's feasible. I mean if, and it's a big if, we all had electric cars, can you imagine all the cables needed to charge them overnight. And what's to stop people on the way back from a night out unplugging cars 'for a laugh'? And trying to queue to use a charger that takes hours to charge one car so you can get home. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong, usually am, but I'll be too old to drive by then.

Electric cars might be OK in cities but they would be marginal where I live and useless where I was last week. There is nothing at all on the Trans Labrador Highway between the few settled places; To be useful there a vehicle would need to be able to make it from Labrador City and Churchill Falls (240 Km), from Churchill Falls to Happy Valley/Goose Bay (290 Km) and from HV/GB to Cartwright (390 Km).
