I picked up a project bike to grab the engine out of...an 87 1200 with at least one blown head gasket, as the oil is milky. My plan is to change both head gaskets more so that we don't have trouble down the line.
This engine is going into a 75 Wing, so the rear cover is coming off to replace the output shaft.
Adding up the parts at Western Honda, I have more into piecing this together than a full gasket kit from Randakk. I know the recommended thought is OEM head gaskets, but I am guessing Randakk wouldn't put his name with a product that wasn't good.
Am I correct in thinking that perhaps a full gasket kit might be the way to go for this engine? Here is the kit in question.
I believe the kit is made by Versah (sp?) I know we all tend to say do with OEM, but I am not aware of hard data to back that up. so it would only be what we call in medicine "expert opinion". Notice the second word is opinion (IMHO)

I did get a kit through him for the 1000 and it was a versah kit. Turns out have not used it

Yes Vesrah gaskets are the only aftermarket gaskets sets that I have not heard any complaints of.

Now, they may not have actually BEEN Vesrahs, but I ran a set of head gaskets that said they were Vesrah on my 1000, and they only lasted about a week before blowing.
With as close as they are in price, any of my head gaskets will always be OEM.
