The twistgrip gearchange is standard on the Ape, using cables. Can't really get a good view of how he has hooked that up to the Honda engine.

It was a standard arrangement on most Italian scooters and geared mopeds back in the 60s and 70s.

When I had the repair shop back in the 70s, one of our staples was changing gear change cables on the Mods Lambrettas. We had it down to a real fine art as a do-it-while-you-wait service.
