Do you anthropomorphize your motorcycle? If so, do you refer to it as a...

My '78 is a she, and her name is Gloriana.

The first time I took her on a road trip, I stopped in a little book store. As I browsed around, I came across a book that just stood out to me, with the title "Gloriana" and knew that was the bike's new name.

I have other bikes in various states of disassembly, but they have to be ridden to deserve a name.

Well, my V65 Magna is "Magnus". (I know, not terribly inventive) My GL650-engined CX500 turned retro scrambler with modern rim sizes... I named the "650 Street Scrambler". Sometimes, when no one else is around, I call it my "CX-ey" (pronounced "sexy") bike. My blue 500 ninja I named Leo, and I have a stuffed Leonardo ninja turtle strapped to the luggage rack. My Yamaha SCR950 I named "Thor". I was toying with "Manbearpig", because it's a factory "bitsa" made with parts from the Bolt line... but the more I rode it, the more I realized it's too awesome for such a stupid name. I went with "Thor" because it's my Yammer Hammer, and "Mjolnir" is too hard to say.

My latest bike is an SSR Buccaneer 250. I initially named it "Rahul", because it means "conqueror of all miseries" in Hindi and "Traveler" in Arabic. I'm in a not great relationship and I needed me-time, and both of these names seemed apt.

But as time goes on, I think "Sybok" is more accurate. Because those miseries aren't conquered by buying a new motorcycle. The bike takes them away for a time, but it's all an illusion.

My XS650's name was just swear words. I hated that bike.

Charles.

Reading old posts today. I have 90 GL1500 known as the Blue Behemoth, no gender and the 75 GL is simply and affectionately called the Thousand, she has a female personality and we respect each other.

I was fine with "the red one", "the brown one", & " the black one", until another black one and brown one showed up...now I need a new plan!
