When I was a kid 15, 16 I worked with my dad and uncle on saturdays, there was a young man who worked in the office that road a orange wing. At the end of the day he would take me for rides I fell in love with that bike and I knew someday I too would have one. Dummy me got caught up with the Harley craze took about 20 years to get my first wing , there is no looking back now. I have a 94 and a 76 project.

My 78 found me by way of hand-me-down. Didn’t know much about it at the time (till I found this wonderful corner of the web). But now...

It really is one of my favorite things in the world. I’m an aviator and a VW dude so the horizontal engine is my jam; it’s genuinely therapeutically meditative stuff to wrench on; it’s gotta be one of the most impressive pieces of engineering I’ve ever become familiar with; it’s unique and turns heads; and it’s killer fun to ride.

...so in short, I’d say she’s grown on me.

I found a 78 Wing in 97, to have something to wrench on.

Twenty plus years and three more Wings later (1000, 1200 and 1500), not too mention a naked Kawasaki,
I'm still wrenching on an old naked Wing...........

Guess I got my wish

Today I brought my red 75 home. I bought it back from a fella about 15 miles away. I’ve been riding my ST1300 for a couple years and had to get my old wing back. My wife said later that night “I didn’t know you bought that red bike back, I thought we were going to get your smaller silver bike.” I’ve never owned a smaller silver bike. Now I know for sure that she has no idea what I do in the garage for hours, and what bikes are in there.

I hate cats!
but I do like Goldwings :-D .

Having grown up back in the era of air cooled twins (all of them... british, japanese, hd),
the 4 cylinder bikes had always interested me because they were a little different than what I was used to.
(remember back when a CB750 was a huge bike?)

However... in my world, the Goldwings were considered an "Old man's bike" because the only guys to ride them were Old.
We used to call them a "Hondapottamus".

After actually considering WHY the old guys were riding them it didn't take long to realize their quality and dependability.
Those old dudes wanted a ride that was comfortable and didn't leave them stranded.
Exactly what I wanted!
Big chassis, water cooling, shaft drive........ a riding machine - Sign me up!

75 was my first - 78 was the best looking - 81 was the most functional.
I have owned a few Oldwing's over the years and been fortunate to put some miles on most of them.
I have a couple of them now and ride a 81 1100 regularly (rode the Valkyrie today though).

The Old Wings fit me, my riding style, and they appeal to my logical practical engineering style.
That's why I own a Naked GoldWing.

...... I don't look like that anymore.

My brother used to call my 1100 the "Wingabago." Now he rides a Road King and my '85 ($500) Interstate does everything his $30K Harley does. lolol
Goldwings are not just for old guys. I first starting riding them when I was 22 and now I'm 65. :crosso
