Well... that's um... interesting looking! :IDTS:

I wonder what company made the Super Wedge.

Welcome Andy.

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.....

I think the wedge fairing could be made to look acceptable if it was painted a nice colour (even a fresh coat of black might be OK) and that "1970s" stripe was replaced with something more tasteful that integrated with the lines of bike & fairing.

My big problem with it is that it protrudes below the headlight, which has to block the light from reaching the road close to the bike. Maybe it would be best used as an ornament hanging from the shop ceiling :dunno:

I'm not sure where it originated but IIRC I first heard it from Norm on Cheers decades ago...

Like your GL, it came to me with the fairing installed. The trike axle, I added.
You will fit in here just fine. This is a place of diversity and acceptance. ;)

BTW, That fairing is unique.
gltriker - thanks for the words! That's a nice custom trike you have! I will have to start a build thread..had not considered it before. As for the fairing, I'm hoping to learn more about it, but it is a rare and unique find, I am finding out!

The wall between my garage and the house doesn't look much different. It comes from needing to seal the seams but wanting to get it done in the shortest time possible so they just tape and don't bother making it look nice.

Well everyone, it's been 3 days shy of a year since I picked up the Wedge, but here is my current status. My goal was to document the process, but there were way too many steps I didn't end up photographing. In truth, not a whole lot of changesl; mainly just went through it mechanically. Also did a few aesthetic changes that I hope doesn't bother many of you too much!

- Was not running upon purchase. Removed carb rack, and replaced with correct rebuilt and synced '77 rack (had GL1100 carbs).
- New Air Cutoff Valve setup, filter, intake manifold gasket.
- Fuel tank was filled with rust. Removed, acid cleaned, 'Red Kote' liner, and fuel lines (NOS working fuel gauge too!)
- Oil, coolant flush, final drive, fork oil, belts and tires.
- lower handlebar setup, chopped rear fender from front so maintains factory lip, chopped fron fender (was already partially chopped from fairing), small brake/taillight, chopped seatpan w/carved foam, and homemade seat cover.

Next steps are to take the fairing back down from the rafters! I have the windshield and side/hand covers that go with the fairing, but I want to install and see how it looks with the low bars. I also want to fab an aluminum dashboard that fits within the fairing for different speedo/tach (both are sticky), oil pressure, temp, volt meter with appropriate indicator lights. This will all be wired to a quick connect plug so I can remove the fairing (when its not a race day ;) ) and have a simpler, LIGHTER setup. Love to hear your thoughts so far. I think the fairing will have to come down on the one year anniversary of its purchase...

Thanks,

Andy

Actually,I kind of like the fairing, but it it looks as if the designer forgot to bring the rest of the bike into the vision. It needs a bit of additional work on the rear to match. Start by losing the seat!
But if anyone likes the seat, I have an even uglier one from my 78. lolol Just in case your interested.
Goldwings don't accelerate, they gain inertia.

1978 GL1000 - almost stock - needs a head replaced, parts are ready to install!
1979 GL1000 - Winter project/parts bike - custom "Busted"
1983 GL1100 Standard- raised from the dead and back to organ donor status
And the newest acquisition, 1979 XS 650F to be a sidecar tug. crossy.gif

I do too! It's got a certain look - any thought on how it will look with my current setup and revised rear end?

P.S. - I also have the two up seat pictured and an original 'surfboard' seat if anyone is interested!

Thanks guys!
