I like the reference to "literally riding the motor"... for some reason it sounds very familiar to about six Hondas I own.
sorta bulldogged custom 1978 GL1000 - "geekster"
full Vetter dress 1979 GL1000 - "Barge" (currently down)
1986 1200 Aspencade - "Heart of Gold" - daily rider
1990 1500 Aspencade - It's ALIVE! but very, very naked. not in a good way.
1978 for $100 - project in worx
1978 from a previous member here - taking up space
my original '79 bought in '91 - replacing engine (eventually, maybe someday)

Does nothing for me from a cosmetic point of view, as it kind of reminds me of a Meccano building set.

As they say.... "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
Current Bikes:

1966 CL77 - Honda 305cc - Dual purpose - "Gentleman's Scrambler" was a period moniker.
1967 CL175K0 - Low production number with #802 engine serial- winter 2019/2020 full restoration.
1972 CB350F - Baby Four with low mileage - Cosmetic refresh to the next level 2021/2022.
1978 CB550K - Very original bike with only 7499 Km. from new - light cleanup and refresh done.
1983 CB1100F - Canadian model - DOHC Supersport in pristine low kilometre condition from new.
1984 GL1200 - Standard model in showroom condition - two owner bike from new.
1984 CX650E - Restored summer 2017 - a rare Eurosport model - excellent one owner bike.

I had the same thought, lol. As for the cosmetics, some elements work for me and some don't. The overall aesthetics, to me at least, speak directly to the classic 'form follows function' mantra. In the text, the designer talks about 'no carbs, no exhaust, no fuel tank,' etc., many of the elements which make up the typical image of what a motorcycle 'is.' Loosely quoted, this is one version of what a motorcycle 'will be'...

I.... see what they were trying to do, and in some way succeeded, but overall it's not my "style" of bike. So take any of my criticisms with that in mind.

Despite trying to move away from what a bike "should" look like, it looks remarkably... normal. It doesn't need a gas tank, but the approximation of one is added anyway. Exhaust, while necissary, is also somewhat of an add-on visually, and has been successfully "hidden" on IC bikes before. Even the desire to expose the power plant seems to fall a bit short, as all you can really see is the case ENCLOSING the power plant.

I mean, I think it looks great for people who like that sort of style. I'm just not one of them.
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- It Runs (Poorly) and Doesn't Leak (Mostly)
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Broke the Chain And Ate the Motor
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

now that the article has some comments, it's always nice seeing the designer replying to them at the bottom of the article.
