I think I've tagged 100 on every bike I've ever owned - including my GL1000. I am now riding a BMW K1200GT. I hit 130 according to the speedometer, with room to spare. And it was comfy. I regularly intend to do 75, and look down only to realize I'm doing 90+. It is smooth.....

I hit 100 on my 07 Street Glide. Also with a tailwind, downhill. Felt like I was being torn to pieces. It amazes me that 65 is so comfortable, and 75 is so miserable on that bike.

I used to believe all the numbers on the speedo of whatever I rode/drove where meant to be used, leading to multiple license issues with the constables. XS1100 would do 140mph with ease, 81 CB 750F would do 120 all day on Cascade Loop. Slowed down when the kids where born, haven’t seen much more than 5 over in 35 years!

Living in Montana I would think the temptation would be pretty strong

Well, the speed limit is 80mph in many places, so that may be fast enough!

I should add. 159MPH plus at the track. That is 0 to that 159 plus in less than 9 seconds. 0 to 130 in 5.5 seconds.

117 78 gl1000 with 77 engine 120 plus on the Valk 99 1500 and had much left then I thought of the 120 rated tires 73 Patrick

Good question....and some interesting answers. Another good question is ...how many bike accidents have you had. Big or small? Or how many years have you been riding? Interesting to me at least.

I've been on bikes since '85 and other than a couple of oops incidents at low speed in the first year the only accident I've had was the one that wrote off my first 'Wing/Dnepr sidecar outfit in '95.

Unless you count the only time I've ever had a vehicle in the ditch. I was on my GS400/Jawa outfit with my wife following in her car and she flashed her headlights to get my attention. I pulled over and left the bike idling while I walked back to see what she wanted, then looked back in time to see the handlebars turn to the right and the outfit roll backwards into a ditch about 8 feet deep Someone driving past by saw us and stopped to help and between the 3 of us we had it out in about 5 minutes I learned that night to always put the transmission in gear and shut the engine off that no matter how cold it is or how short I expect the stop to be...

A good tip. I think we have all had "incidents", and learn something from them.

First bike was in 73 I think. Had numerous until about 86. Bike less from 86 to 04 when I picked up Dad's 78 Wing. 1 Wreck at the Dragstrip in 77 going through the lights at speed. basically walked away. 1 wreck in 79 (following too close and not paying close enough attention) Pickup in front of me did an emergency stop and I slammed into him on my 78 750F. Nothing busted but a lot of muscle/ligament damage. I have not done the math lately but I think I am at about 300,000 miles on 2 wheels.

Been on motorized two wheelers for 53 years. (I'm only 61 ). One street wreck when I was 17, showing off. Ligament damage on right ankle to remind of it to this day. One issue at the track. Damp top end, finish line, and too hard on the brakes. Was racing again the next night.

I had my first 'accident' while taking my riding test, lol! Didn't quite get my foot down fast enough on the 'panic stop' test. Embarrassing then, but funny now. My worst was having a front tire go flat on a curve at about 45 MPH. Scrapes and scratches and sore for a while, and didn't get back on a bike for more than a year, then had to work through a mild anxiety every time I entered a left hand sweeper.

High side in a long fast sweeper, chickened out and didn’t commit to the corner. Destroyed bike, helmet, leathers, gloves and left wrist. Seven months in a cast then on to my next bike (XS1100). Left my gear hanging in the shop for years to let others know how important good protection is.

I know trike and I have gone a true 80mph when I was checking its speedometer accuracy with my cell phone GPS. (~3mph slower groundspeed than indicated on its speedometer)

Seem to remember 90mph may have been tickled, too. Several times.

seems I have always had a little anxiety on left handers at speed. I was told most everyone favors one or the other. Does not effect me so much on the normal roads, but was a slight problem when on a track
