I'm doing some monkeying with some ideas for motorcycle mods, and I had a random question. I'm going to need a spring that's okay being immersed in fuel. Is there any kind of material considerations I need to worry about (coatings deteriorating and flaking off, etc.), or can I just grab anything from the local hardware store?
Thanks!

Re: Fuel-Safe Spring Material?
Is it always going to be submersed? If so raw steel on up would be OK. If it is going to be exposed to air at times then you want some sort of corrosion protective coating.

Re: Fuel-Safe Spring Material?
Sort of 70-30 (70% in, 30 out). I'm attempting to convert a non-functioning solenoid fuel valve to a fuel filter, because reasons. So the amount of air it will be exposed to is the same amount as a normal fuel filter.
I don't know what springs my local hardware stores stock, but I figured I'd get a jump on what would be best to look for.

I think for small stuff the most common will be Zinc or Cadmium plating. Sometimes it is a mix of both. I kind of doubt you will find other options for off the shelf stuff. Pretty good read here: https://www.newcombspring.com/resources ... -corrosion
