Wouldn't be my choice and I told him that. But, his brother, the original builder in 78 had some gold so he wanted some too. ;)
I respect that!

He is building it as a reference/remembrance to his brother, so hey I am sure he will be very pleased with your work Robin!

Owner says it is an old RC Engineering header. Individual head pipes. I've never seen that on an RC pipe before. Pretty small collector on it. Nice sound though. No baffle of course. ;)

One of the best pipes you could get in the late 90's was a Star header. Made by George Bryce in Georgia. I bought a few of their street pipes and ran the race pipe for years. Worked with George to build me a custom one off race pipe one year. Bike picked up 1/10th of a second in the quarter with that pipe and one size down on the main jet compared to one of their off the shelf race pipes.

Had a Kerker first, then a RC on my 77 KZ650. Kerker was a crappy thing, never worked well or stayed together. Blue and on one end and rust on the other...

Well, since I have no part in that process I can't really say. The owner of the bike set that part up on his own. I've had the same guy do some work for me. Great painter. When he did mine he took about 3 weeks total. I have no idea what the hold up is on this one.

I would like to see it gone though. ;)

After a long wait I got the paint yesterday. Remember this is a bit of a tribute to the owners brother, the original builder. I think it was worth the wait. You can see most of the detail. There is a lot of metal flake. And yes that is gold leaf on there.
