respoking rims
**disclaimer** I've never attempted this...last time I messed with spokes it was on my 10 speed when I was a teenager..
I want to respoke the rims on the 76.
Is there voodoo magic involved in accomplishing this without ending up in a psych ward?

That's what I think anytime I considering touching a spoke. You are a braver man than I am. Best of luck with your effort though.
Fingers crossed!

Re: respoking rims
I respoked a wheel for my Harley about 40 years ago. Wanted a 19” rim on my wide glide front end. Of course I had the instruction of a 70 year old bike mechanic but it wasn’t much of a chore. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.

Re: respoking rims
Did mine on the 75 a couple years ago. Stripped the entire wheel down to parts. Polished the rims to a nice shine and the hubs to a brushed look. Spokes were wire brushed and painted black. It all went back together once I figured out the sequence of the spokes. End results were good and it was not all that difficult. Can't remember if I took pictures along the way but I'll look.

Re: respoking rims
As a kid I had a go at straightening a wheel I had messed up but I could not get the warp out of it. I eventually brought it to a bicycle shop in town, there was an old guy there and he trued it up for me in about 5 minutes. I never ventured near the art of respoking since, sent wheels out to get them done. Patience is the most important tool in a toolbox. I wish you the best of luck.

Re: respoking rims
if the spokes can be replaced 1 at a time it won't be hard to do..but I want to paint the rims, and hubs so...down the rabbit hole I will go.

Re: respoking rims
Octane did a thing in his forum about respoking. He was using a modified rim and such but the principles should be the same. His thread is here viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2681#p19255 it looks like all the pics are missing since the upgrade. I will try to get them plugged back in sometime in the next day or 2.

Re: respoking rims
If you build a wheel, then I'm pretty sure you can call yourself a bike builder. Go for it.

Re: respoking rims
I've respoked, rebuilt and built a bunch of wheels, it's not very difficult. Believe me, if I can do it anyone can. First thing is to check the wheel offset, probably doesn't have any but be sure before you disassemble the wheel. Then take lots of pictures. Sometimes you can replace one spoke, but be aware that there are two different spokes on a wheel, some are threaded through the hub from the inside and some are from the outside. If you can build a fixture to hold the wheel and hub, it will make the job much easier and quicker. Just remember, all the nipples must be started before any spoke is tightened.

Tks Paul. I plan on taking lots of pics and using the valve stem as a reference guide.05c50 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 10:12 am I've respoked, rebuilt and built a bunch of wheels, it's not very difficult. Re: respoking rims
I may be wrong (because, like Liam, I totally screwed up a bicycle wheel when I was 12), but I believe the offset has to do with the alignment of the center plane of the rim and hub as it's being measured in this pic.
A good How-To here.

Wow! that is a great tutorial, but I think my eyes started to bleed trying to read it . It's very comprehensive!! But it might scare people away from trying it on there own, it's not that hard.

I read his first tutorial on lacing the rim..extremely easy to follow.
I have a pretty good working knowledge of rim off set and run out..
