grip question

#1

Post by 5speed »

I'm changing the old grips on a friends bike for her. Left one was no problem except the tussle to get it on.
Now the throttle side...this is my dilemma.
The white piece in the picture is I'm assuming the push, pull tube as it moves the throttle cable.
The old grip was a rubber sleeve over this.
I got the rubber sleeve off but there is no way the new grip will go on. According to my calipers there is almost a 1/4" difference measuring to the edge of the ribs on the sleeve and the ID of the new grip.
At first I thought I put the wrong one on but the left hand one was very tight going on so that isn't the issue.
I don't see any sign of a split between the tube and the part that goes in to the switch housing.
This is on a 92 Kawasaki vulcan.

ugh..really don't want to try and take the new one off.. :(
ETA..checked the grips on the website..
These are intended for use on motorcycle with a twist throttle assembly. The diameter of the grips only applies to the size of the bar, not the ID of the grips. One of the supplied grips will have a larger I.D. to compensate for the larger O.D. of the throttle tube.
e-mailed them..see what they say. I don't think I can get the new grip off without wrecking it.

If it has a hole in the end sometimes LP air works. Kind of inflates it like a balloon and you can slide it off without detruction

It does have a hole but the inner tube is hard plastic..
Tks Gord but it isn't my bike. She wanted the biggest grips we could find as her hands cramp up on smaller ones.
Waiting to hear back from fortnine. If they want both grips back..they may get one in pieces.
