So, some of you have seen my current project - a Yamaha XS750 barn find. I am rebuilding the carbs at the moment, and hit a bit of a snag. Mikuni carbs (not the same as the Goldwings - has the rubber diaprhams) with the choke lever mounted on the side of the carbs instead on on the handlebars. While disassembling the carb rack, one of the screws holding the lever to the carb body broke off. Most of the screw is still in the body, but it is below flush - probably 2 mm or so below the face of the screw boss. It's a tiny little machine screw - maybe 2mm diameter. Any thoughts on how to extract?

Not really, but Mikuni parts and full carbs are fairly plentiful. BTW, on a Mikuni, it is more of an "enricher" than a choke (even though the lever indeed says CHOKE). It adds fuel in from the float bowl through its own jet instead of choking air flow to the carb allowing intake vacuum to pull a richer mixture. Both perform about equally, though. I have GL1000 with choke and RD400c with enrichers. Different ways to get a rich mixture while cold. Whether you fix your lever pivot or not, make sure the piston seals well when it is at the bottom (off).

If this were my problem to solve, I would start with penetrating oil and heat from a small propane torch on the carb body near the screw. Heat up pretty good to get the oil to penetrate ( the carb body will expand faster than the screw) then with a fine point punch put a dent dead center on the broken screw. Then with more heat on the carb body, use a left hand drill bit a little smaller than the screw in a battery hand drill on low speed with oil to cool the bit. You might get lucky! I have in the past...not always.
