Battery Life Before Adding Acid?

#1

Post by Lucien Harpress »

Question for the group, and a fairly simple one- before you add acid to a wet-cell battery, how long does it stay good for? It may or may not be relevant to a recent purchase of mine...

Thanks!

I was kind of hoping so. I'm starting to chase electrical for my '65 Dream, and the cheapest battery (which is why I didn't feel bad getting it) was period-correct BECAUSE it was NOS, from the period. No acid obviously, and how much would I trust it long-term? Ehhh....

But, in any case, it was half the price of a "modern" battery, I know it's going to fit, and if it gets enough juice to at least help me troubleshoot (and maybe beyond- who knows)?

I've spent more money on dumber, I suppose. Thanks.

I imagine you're lucky to find an OEM-sized battery for that. Neither those nor the CB-series have common-sized batteries.

when I worked at Canadian tire way back when..all of our car batteries were shipped dry and we filled them when we sold it. some sat on the shelf for years.
I'm betting a dry battery will last a very long time.
