This is at a garage sale on the mainland, out Chilliwack way. Any ideas what it is, be a neat project, but too far away.

The HD Hummer looks similar, but chain drive on opposite sides, front forks slightly different, narrower front wheel. Would be a good restore project. Going to send a message and ask for name.

Back in the days of Telegrams (the real ones, not the current social thing) our Royal Mail, who ran the telcommunications in ths country as well as the mail, ran hundreds of these little 125cc Bantams with uniformed youngsters zooming around the cities delivering telegrams. As you can imagine they were absolutely THRASHED! But tough as old boot leather and very cheap and quick to repair.
The engine was basically as DKW design, grabbed by the Allies after the war as part of the German reparations.

Enjoy your Googling, as there is an huge amount to see about this little bike. The Bantam was produced right up to when BSA went down the tubes, going through endless upgrades and versions in its lifetime. The final version was a really excellent commutter bike; 175cc, four speed, good handling ( the last of the Triumph Tiger Cub 200s used its frame and forks). But, just like the resat of the British bikes, once the Japanese bikes appeared it was shown to be the old fashioned steed that it was.

It is a BSA, didn't mention model. Don't have a lot of room, but would find a spot to store it, neat little bike. Time to google as well. It's sold. Has a '71 motocross, don't know what it is.

These bikes were also raced. The most successful racer was Fred Launchbury

The champion in the UK at the time was George Todd who spent lots of his time and money developing the Bantam. He wrote a book in the mid 1950s entitled 'Boost Your Bantam.' George was an expert rider of his own Bantam, but tuned bikes for other riders. One such racer was Fred Launchbury who had a shop in Raynes Park in London, selling Bantam racing gear. In 1967, on an ex-GPO Bantam fitted with George Todd's equipment and tuned by him, Fred was to come in 20th at an average speed of 73.9mph in that year's 125cc Lightweight TT. (Note that year and that speed, on a home tuned bike, over 37miles of mountain roads!!)
