interesting electrical issue

#1

Post by 5speed »

2007 shadow spirit.
when I blow the horn it kills the running lights. if I unhook the horn it doesn't do it.
I took the switch apart and there are no bare wires or loose connections..
it's got me stumped.

Kills the running lights, momentarily, only while the horn button is momentarily depressed ?
Running lights illuminate immediately afterwards without requiring a dedicated switch activation?

Might be an insufficient ground and the horn is the winner?

Engine running or not? Both of my 1100s could only blow the horn once for a short duration if the engine wasn't running, too much of a drain on the battery. Might be something similar.

Does it have an automatically resetable circuit breaker in the circuit?

Got to be a voltage drop issue. I would guess the sensitivity of the LED's is why you see it with them installed. The Incandescents probably dim but maybe not enough for you to see it. Did you check it with it running as Dean suggested? If you have a wiring diagram I would look for a common ground between the two systems and make sure that is good.

I didn't try it running. I may later but the owner is okay with the old bulbs and I need to take it home so I can do the fork seals on my fj..
