Start removing parts until all you have left is the fuel tank!
Seat,rear fender,rear wheel,maybe swingarm,false tank for access to bolts,battery,battery box,maybe more. It ain't easy!

On my bike it was still tight after removing everything listed in the manual. I pulled the two muffler rear support bolts and used a big screwdriver to wedge the muffler down about 3/8 of an inch and it came free.

I didn't see removing the master cylinder mentioned. Probably obvious. Or maybe the master cylinder isn't in the way on that model.

My daughter was born in meconeum. Had her on Dec. 19 01 and didnt get to bring her home tell the 26. They didnt let us keep her in the room with us and we had to take her to hearing test an all sorts. The people that did the hearing tests never heard of meconeum and didnt know way we needed hearing tests. I told them we were just told to.
She was fine though.
Are there any affects this could have cause?

Meconeum comes first before bowel in babys .When a baby has a bowel movement before they are born there is a chance of it being inhaled.
I'm sorry I got off topic. Doesnt have anything to do with bikes . rcmatt007 was being humorist and it just cought my attention.

I kind of cheat as I'm parting out the wing, so everthing is removed. The main thing I've found is to hit the back/top of the tank with a flat hand and watch the tank move. I've gotten to where they pop out pretty easy. It really doesn't take much force. Dave and I have been thinking of fliming the next tank removel (watch it be a bear).
Peace,
Frank

Hi I have just had my carbs done by Pistol Pete, And I know I need to clean my tank, Is it the same procedure on a 79 gl1000.
Right now the engine is out, the exhaust are out, rear wheel is out, false tank & false tank suppout are out.
I guess the only thing left would be the battery & battery box, and possibly the rear shocks?

Are there instruction anywhere for this procedure? I have the shop manual but cant find anything about fuel tank removal.

Thanks

Check Shoptalk, there used to be a vid from crazymofo. I think the link went dead though.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
