The mess of wires under the headlight surely is a rats nest. You just need to approach them one at a time. I don't think the human mind can comprehend the entire wiring schematic all at once.

I worked for General Electric repairing X-ray machines for many years, and that's the first thing they taught us is to look at the wiring one small section at a time. Our schematics for X-ray machines made the Goldwing wiring look like child's play.

My $0.02 worth.

Hello, Newb [but Old Fart] & no compu-geek from Canada here....
1st post/query about the rat's nest in the tray behind the weight on a 'rescue' 1983 Interstate [or Aspy].
Want to get the front basic lights sorted out w/o doing much cutting/patching....
Is there a way to simply disconnect this & that, connect the headlight & turn sigs here, & Bob's your uncle?
There is a 9-connector at the end of a short umbilical, that I believe originally fed the fairing, that should have all I need, but I'm hoping to intercept the signals, hopefully at an accessible connector, before that, otherwise it's going to be tough to stuff all that spaghetti & connectors into a headlight bucket....
Also, specifically, how does one power up the 3-prongs on the headlight, so it works as it should [generally & Hi/Lo in particular]?
There is a female 3-pronger that physically fits the headlight, but does not light it, or go high/lo....
Any very specific advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome from Wisconsin. Yes, the 'umbilical' leads to the original fairing, and it follows back to the standard harness. It just plugs in and can be removed, and those connections used for signals and headlight.
