1978 Goldwing
Hello everyone I'm new here so forgive me. I just recently got a 1978 Honda Goldwing 1000 she sat in a guys garage untouched and uncovered for 20 years.
I saw it and just had to have it. You can only imagine what it looked like. The previous owner really nice guy had an aneurism and it sat.
My question is this. Other than the basics of fluids battery what does it need to be restored? No the engine is not locked which is a good thing, and oil was black not milky.ive had experience with Goldwings before .so not totally new to this.but willing to learn. I'm 56 years old and still a kid with toys. Lol. Be safe out there guys and thank you for any and all help.God Bless

Re: 1978 Goldwing
Welcome from Wisconsin. As Cliff says above, ShopTalk is a great place to start. A few things to put on your list are timing belts, brakes, and probably some electrical work. Just my opinion, but take small bites at first!

Re: 1978 Goldwing
I must say, ya got one of the best looking year models... I have two '78s and two '79s (same basic lines & look).
Welcome.
As others have mentioned, timing belts are a critical must before first firing. Thorough carb clean (or maybe a rebuild). I've gotten away with doing just an in-depth cleaning (removal & partial disassembly), but not always.
Maybe not so obviously, a new battery.
Check the timing. Static, not dynamically.
Plugs... prolly new wires... [chuckle] the list starts to get long.
Keep us updated.

Re: 1978 Goldwing
Welcome from Maine.
I'm pretty new here and can confidently report that you've found a wonderful community of people ready to offer guidance and help. My son and I are on the other end of an '83 project, and we could not possibly have tackled it so "easily" without the NGW resources, both in the archives and in the nearly instantaneous assistance offered by the members.
