Not so long ago, I was an NGW newbie myself. I have discovered that there really are very few "stupid questions". More likely than not, someone on the site has had a similar problem themselves. Everyone needs help along the way if you are riding an old Wing.

I have received abundant, priceless help here at NGW. One thing that I have learned is that to get good help I had to know how to ask the right questions.

When posting questions, please be SPECIFIC about the symptoms you are observing.

If the total information that you provide is something like "I was driving my bike down the freeway and it just quit on me", you will not likely receive any useful help.

Saying something like "I was riding my bike on the freeway and it started to backfire, then slowly cut out a died" will be more helpful in getting good suggestion and help in a timely manner.

also. i would recommend searching. This site is way way nicer than my more commonly frequented tdiclub site. People here aren't here to call you stupid, however, if your problem is common a simple search will give results and solve your problem that much faster.

"Doc I am sick..."

"okay, what do you mean by 'sick'?"

"you're the doc, you tell me...."

I would also add that it is a BIG help to all of us if, when you post your questions/issues/exciting discoveries, do it like this:

"GL1100 Water Pump problem"

and NOT like this:

"Motorcycle Problem" (gee, really?????)

or

"Help Needed"

It's not that hard to BE ON TOPIC, specific topic, when you post a thread. . .

I always write the subject line after I write the body of the post.

BTW: That's how we do headlines in the newsroom.

thanks for the link on the search, as one of the newer folks, I know that I have already asked a fair number of questions and gotten a lot of help when my searches dont pop....

I have a ? I'm sure its been answered before. What is the max rear tire I can put on the bike without rubbing.

Roost, maybe do an introduction of yourself, include what your bike is with your signature (different years/models involve different size tires) and you will get a better response...welcome to the forum.

Love the "Doc I'm sick" back-n-forth. That's an okay way to do it if you take it to a mechanic and you pay them but, if you're tryin' to beg "free" = ] help off the network, you definately need to be as specific as possible.

Sometimes just trying to communicate your problem in words will lead you to the solution before you click "Submit."

Hi my name is Tom, I'm new here, own an GL 1100 '82 Aspencade for 11 years now; got run out of the road in '06 (South Florida traffic pheew) guy didn't see me.Changed front forks two years physical therapy for the broken hip quit riding in 07,park it in the shed,that's it ,I think.
now I want to start riding again, and every thing that can be ruined on this beast has gotten ruined .
finally the question. will it ruin anything to run with a rusted muffler (loud)

HI AGAIN ,NO KIDDING LOTS OF INTERESTING STUFF, (sorry didn't mean to scream,I'll use my inside voice now).I was reading on the technical forum, cleaning carbs fast and furious ,BY OCTANE (great pics by the way) .Some how the post drifted to E85 fuel.My better half owns an Explorer (yuck,four wheels)that is flex fuel. and I noticed a drop in mileage of about 30% on the green stuff,
