New to Goldwings

#1

Post by jonesg9 »

Hi. I live in central Michigan and just bought my first Goldwing. It is a 1984 GL1200 Interstate. I would appreciate any advice concerning this bike. It runs and drives well and has around 65000 miles. Thank you.

Stockbridge is the "All Clubs" show put on by the SE Michigan Norton owners group. Some very nice machines of all flavors will be displayed. Besides the nice ones - Cyborgs "Raptor" will be there as well. (The go-fast part of his is from a 1200.)

Mine is a proper one-liter Goldwing painted in the stock "virgin" white and it will be there too. The only real downside is that since my bike will be there - so will eye.

Mr. Snavely,
When I throw an obvious shot at somebody I expect a lively retort in response. Now I ain't saying I'm gonna turn down the lunch offer...I'm just saying.

BTW I'm having coil issues again. I've got a pair of 1100 coils sitting here and I think I'll swap them in this week. I hope it isn't the Dyna ignition or the bike will be down for a month.

Oh yeah, Jonesg9...change the timing belts if you aren't positive they have less than 20k on them.

Greg, what happened to the '5 years or 25K miles' rule? ;)

It's really more of a guideline than a rule. For those of us who have trouble with cipherin' twenty is as high as we go cuz that's all the fingers and toes we gots.

Howdy from Calgary jonesg9, welcome to the club. One good place to start is to click the big yellow button at the bottom of Placerville's post.

Hi my name is jim and I’m a proud owner of a 1980 gl 1100 fully dressed and going naked , just wanted to thank Ken up in Connecticut for selling his bike to me, I’m a retired Harley-Davidson mechanic and these goldwings are all new to me but can’t wait to get into it, I guess I’ll take everything off and put it out there for anyone that needs this stuff, any tips for me, I’m thinking of getting it running first after everything comes off then start replacing belts pulleys and sensors and gasket right ? I live in Maryland just outside of Annapolis.
