Post by Bartmon »

Hi All, anim-cheers1
First time owner of a 81 GLi - basket case
Saved her from the crusher in a junkyard, last guy dreamed of
making a trike so don't know yet the extent of " improvrments"

Any how , it will keep me in the shed away from beer & bread !!

I may dip into the archive to view procedure to " bring lifr back"

Any threads come to mind ?

Talk soon --- BTW any Irish in here ??

Welcome from Scotland. We did have a couple of Irishmen on here, but sorry I can't think who they were off hand.
Oh yeah; Liam is one. I'm sure he'll see this soon.

Hi All , The bike arrived in a hale of rain and storm , the tale end of the Hurricane encountered
over there last week

She had a lovely Celtic Motif and certainly I could see the potential

A couple of surprises appeared, last owner must have an idea to turn her into a trike

The drive is disconnected , see pic , what do I need to refit < repair or replace ??

Also a toggle switch is wired from battery to front top of radiator - see pic

Is this a kill switch possibly ??

The bike has sat in shed for 5 years so I can crank engine 1/4 turn so im saying not seized
, have applied WD 40 to plugs , will change them tomorrow

It will be fun, but it keeps me sane, !!

You are a brave man Sir! :orange

Interesting project; lot's of hard work needed there. You have 1000 heads fitted to that 1100.

If the drive shaft Universal Joint has NO play in it, the splines at both ends are good and the splines in the coupler are also good, it's a matter of taking off the final drive unit from the swing arm, feeding the shaft down the swing arm from the engine side ( take both shocks off the arm, it should drop far enough for you to feed it in). The coupler is attached with a circlip, deep down inside. The universal joint joins the engine output shafts by means of another circlip. Slip that rubber boot on first though! Fill the coupler with Honda Moly60 grease and slide the final drive on. Leave the three nuts loose until you have the wheel back in and tightened up, before tightening them.

If your shaft is goosed, I have a very good shaft available, but there are two different lengths for the 1100 and I'm not sure which I have. So you would need to measure yours from one end to the other and I will check mine.

Can I also point you to to the Shop Talk page for some tech reading: http://www.ngwclub.com/shoptalk/

And also to my website where you can find even more to read. Click the banner below.
