1978 GL1000
Hi New to the Forum. Just picked up this 1978 gl for $800. Hasnt been turned over in 6 years, put new gas, oil, spark plugs, filter and battery. Cranked her over and got about 2 cylinders fired up. I took off the carbs as i think the old gas sitting in them may have gone bad, so i plan on refreshing it and trying again. This is my second goldwind, and im psyched to be in this group to learn some more about these bikes! Im also from El Paso, TX.

Nice '78! Welcome. '78s are the bestest.
If it has sat with gas for that long, your problems are likely to be more than just bad gas. I'm currently finishing up a set of carbs that had sat for a while. Coupla plugged slow jets and a coupla plugged secondary main jets. You're likely to have similar issues - as well as dried o-rings not sealing. Pulling those carbs and going through them is highly recommended.

Hey, welcome to the club. Sweet looking ride. I see that you are not new to wings, but in your post, you didn't say that you changed the belts. If that is the case, before I fired her up again, I would swap them out. After six years of sitting, and who knows how many years of use before that, they are in dire need of being replaced.
