75 Goldwing
Greetings. Just aquired a 75 Goldwing from my father. He's had it for 20 years, with plans to drive it, but never materialized. 38,000 miles. Thinking about swapping out the handlebars, seat, and backrest. Not sure right now. I'll get it road-worthy first.

Re: 75 Goldwing
Welcome from Wisconsin! Looks like it's been preserved fairly well, and had a few aftermarket tidbits added here and there. A great starting point! There is a link in my signature to great thread for 'new-2-you' Wing owners. Check it out for good advice on getting it back on the road safely! Enjoy the ride!

Welcome to the 'Wingdom.
Look at the 'New to Me' thread in ShopTalk and move 'timing belts' to the top of your list.

Re: 75 Goldwing
I currently live in Springfield, Ohio. I grew up with bikes, mostly dirt bikes and sport bikes. But I actually found this bike 20 years ago for my father. He's always had full dresser GW's, and wanted an early one. His intent was to paint it to match his 1500. Too many projects and vacations, so it just sat in the garage. Several years ago 5-6, he had new tires, brakes rebuilt, timing belt, seat, carbs rebuilt, and several other small things done. He was going to get it on the street. Again, too many things on the burner, so it just sat. I've always liked the bike. He asked if I wanted it....Not turning that down! It does have the Vetter/Windjammer fairing and bags, but I'm not a fan of that. Put a new battery on it, and it fired up. Sputters a little, but the gas is old. From what I can tell, the original paint color was a deep red (can tell from some paint chips). Eventually, I'd like to paint it. I'm a big fan of orange/copper (that's the color of my Jeep) So time will tell. Love this site, very helpful so far.

Re: 75 Goldwing
I'd put new belts on it. Not good for them to sit in one position for that long. Gates belts are low cost and they are easy to change. Worth it over some possible bent valves.

A quick update. Started to clean up the bike. New timing belts and cleaned out the carbs. Also took off the backrest and windshield. Now to put some miles on.

Re: 75 Goldwing
Been off the board here for awhile. Here is the bike so far. Changed the belts!! New tires and tubes, sport bike handlebar w/ bar end mirrors, Sportster seat, and bobbed the rear fender a little. It's been fun to drive and handles surprisingly well. Still needing to freshen up the paint. I am also thinking of painting the rims and the lower portion of the forks gloss black. Thoughts?

Some newer pictures of my 1000. Not crazy about the paint. Too much black. Trying to decide on a color.

Re: 75 Goldwing
Some pin striping would help, but it looks like it has orange peel that needs rubbed out first.
