Introduction, NGW owner for about a year

#1

Post by BustedKnuckles »

Hey all, I'm pretty new to Goldwings. Several years ago (10?) I was an active (founding) member on BARF (bay area riders forum), I live in Vallejo, CA. Anyways I always wanted one, until one day it fell in my lap. About three years ago I went with a buddy to buy a '76 GL1000, it was clean enough and ran so he pulled the trigger and bought it. He started doing research on how to keep them up and tore it down for new belts. We were buds in college, I guess he got another bike so the 'Oldwing collected dust in the back of the garage. Well once we finished, he took a job shipping and brought the bike to me at no charge (what are friends for?).

I have had bikes of all makes and vintages. Currently I have a '69 CL350 Scrambler and a '82 CB450T. I don't have any plans for the 'Oldwing other than riding it and regular maintenance. When I got the bike it ran very well; loud, rich, and hot. It appears an enthusiast owned it prior, as it doesn't appear to be 100% stock. I will make post in the tech section with my findings and fixes.

Thanks for having me,

Jason

Here it is, a '76. My buddies bald head for scale. This is the only pic I have, we were readying it for transport. He was liquidating everything he owned after finishing school.

oops, I said ran very well. I meant to say Finicky and temperamental.

I've been keeping a journal as I go through the charging, ignition, and maintenance. Will share it soon.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Looks like a good deal at half the price, lol! Patience and persistence will pay off in the end, I'm sure, but these old girls can be a bugger to figure out.
