New Member Intro: North Alabama

#1

Post by JR4802 »

Thanks for the addition to the NGW club. I purchased my new 81 GL1100 (Standard) a few weeks ago (Craigslist Ad). 29,600 on the odometer. The PO was a fanatic about maintenance. He owned 40 bikes (before his wife found out.) This is my first Gold Wing and I will surely be looking and searching the threads. I'm 57, live in North Alabama. Not new to cycling but first bike in many years. Thanks in advance for all of the knowledge I'm going to learn here.

Welcome from the UK, enjoy the ride. If the PO was a fanatic, I assume the timing belts are ok, but if in ANY doubt, change them.

Welcome from Wisconsin! I'll second the timing belt recommendation, it really is cheap insurance. Oh, and we LOVE pics, lol! Enjoy the ride!

The PO said he had changed the timing belts in the past 1000 miles. Along with a list of other things. I’ll definitely post some pics when my status updates.

Gave 2K for it. It has a few minor cosmetics that need to be addressed. Nothing major that I’ve found so far. I put a Slipstreamer windshield on it to replace the small slipstream viper windshield. Looking for a luggage rack to go on the back. It has the samsonite luggage bags on it now. Not sure If I’ll keep these on it or not.
