The surest way to tell what the bike was originally is to look at the factory placard attached to the left side of the steering head (frame). It can be hard to see with the fairing on. The bottom line on the placard will list the year and model. A Standard will only have 'gl1100' Interstate will have 'gl1100 I' and Aspy 'gl1100 A'

"If you can't take the time to do it right the first time, how are you ever going to find the time to do it over?" -Unknown

Current Rides:
'Grumpy' - '81 Standard, now fully dressed.
'Layla' - '81 Standard w/dealer installed fairing and Hondaline bags.
'Scarlett' '76 'Survivor' nekkid as a j-bird!

Under Construction:
The 'Jalopy' '78-'79 Mash-up
'Quikie' '81 gl1100I back on the lift, project with the step-son!

In The Shed:
'81 gl1100I barn find aka "Josie, the farmer's daughter." (almost comatose build)
'77 gl1000, roller parts bike.
'82 gl1100I, 'Old Crusty' titled roller parts bike (free!)
'82 gl1100I, My first 'Wing, and an expensive lesson!

What does it say on the title? Should match the number stamped on the "NECK" not the fork. On the I.D. tag. Has all the info about the bike. Build date etc
1978 custom GL1000
1977 custom with 1200 engine
1985 gl1200

Just so we are communicating clearly, these are pics of my '81 ID plate and stamp on the steering neck or head. First of all, the number on the plate should match the stamped number. If you look closely at the pic of the plate, in the bottom left corner you can see 'GL1100 I' The 'I' means it's an Interstate. No 'I' means standard, 'A' means it's an Aspencade. The number on the engine never matches the frame on Honda GoldWings, so that's normal.
I don't know where you're located, but if the plate and stamped numbers don't match (in the US), something has been altered, and could cause problems if inspected. One thought that comes to mind is if the trike was 'built' by a company they may have been required to give it a different VIN number. As Cyborg says above, check the numbers with the title and go from there.

Hi All

Was wondering if anyone could give me a estimate on my Voyager Trike conversion kit I am thinking about selling? I have it on my 1982 GL1100 goldwing excellent condition, I live in the Myrtle Beach SC area, really don't want to ship.
