Good morning! Jimhmiii here from Connecticut. Just signed up this morning and want to check in and say hello. I own a 81 goldwing interstate that I’ve had for three years. I’ve just completed yet another oil and filter change and always wonder about the correct way to determine correct oil level. I do the service on the center stand and refill the oil to the exact level in the sight glass while still on the center stand. However, when the bike is off the center stand and stood up straight, it appears in the sight glass to be overfill. Any commentary on the correct way to look at this would be appreciated. remember, when the bike is on the center stand the rear is higher than when it is not.... the tilt is the difference you are seeing.

Sight glass is a pain .... put in the correct amout at oil change a note the level ....

My quick-n-dirty sight glass assessment - if I can see oil, that's good. Should always be a bit below the top line, though. I don't think any real harm would be done with minor overfilling. These motors are pretty good at offloading excess oil (hence the recommendation of keeping the level below the top line). To be honest, I shoot for halfway, but precision is not critical. Visible oil is.
