Hello, new to this great forum with a 1984 GL1200 Standard. I bought it from another NGW member in June 2017. I have been working on for over a year doing service and mods.

Yes, the ammo cans... 40mm linked boxes.

The ammo cans were sitting in the shop as take-offs from various adventure rigs that I've had over the years. Matter of fact, there are numerous scavenged parts that went into the rear rack and pannier hangers; I think there are some GW, HD, and Triumph pieces/parts and even some square tubing from a demo'd swimming pool deck fence that I welded up together. It all looks the same sandblasted and powder coated!

Thanks 77Gowing! I am a few hours north of you up here in Lubbock. Working out some fueling issues now. I have post in the technical section.

Thanks Gord. It is good to finally find this forum; my seller recommended that I join NGW over a year ago yet I was too busy with this that and the other bike.

Man, those ammo cans look good. I have been trying to find a solution between no saddle bags and the large stock arrangement. Do you have more information on the rack setup used here? Thanks!

Hello again fellas...it's been a long while...Last summer, I was loaded up for a long distance highway West Texas, NM, CO, UT, AZ, NM, back home to West Texas cruise. I left Lubbock and only made it about 90 miles out of town. The moto just won't make power above 50-60 MPH (See other post, "....No Top End"). So, I limped it back home. Over the months, I would continually tinker with it, but it would never hold a charge on the battery. I parked it for many months and then...and then the real fun started. After some reading, I suspected that the STATOR was shot. Apparently, the 1984 Honda Goldwing has a well-known defect with the STATOR. SOOoooo...here we go....

Well, look on the bright side. At least you don't have a mountain of plastic to remove first! (not much consolation, I know :( )
Nice bike, it will be worth the effort.
What model is that saddle off? I'm thinking along something like that for my 1000, as the standard Honda plank is not good for my spine problems.

Don't want to speak for the original poster (so correct me if I'm wrong), but it looks like the stock 1200 seat with the passenger section cut off.

If so, I CAN confirm it is much comfier than the stock 1000 board of a seat.
