I bought the bike. She's getting a full mechanical restoration (including belts) and a little cafe racer makeover at the moment. Custom seat and some aftermarket bars! I'll post some pictures and keep you guys updated on the process :)

Yes. Change the belts!

This is what happens when you lose timing while riding:

Sure that will all buff out!

Welcome to the club from the UK. How can a bike with two PO's still only have 6k on the clock!!!!!

Oh yes, and change the belts!

It was a barn find for the second owner. The first guy bought it, rode it about 2k miles, then parked it for 32 years. The 2nd owner did some work to it, albeit not good work. He was an older gentleman in his late 70's. My assumption is he bought the bike in the midst of a mid life crisis, assuming he could do a full restore itself, and then when he realized he was in way over his head he sold it.

that's just disgusting... that I can't find one like it around here, that is! I'd be all over that, as you were - congrats on a great find

UPDATE:

Build is going strong.
Carbs getting rebuilt.
Timing belts changed.
Oil leaks fixed.
I'm going for a more café racer style look on this thing so custom bars and seat are a must.

I'll keep you guys updated as it progresses.

Looks outstanding! But I have two comments – one legitimate and one a little bit smart alecky.

1- Why would a 6000 mile motorcycle have oil leaks? I suppose the seals all turned to stone.

2- If the previous owner was in his late 70s, he was waaaaay past the point of having a midlife crisis.

hey now, ya never know. some of us are seriously shooting for the 120 mark so 70 y/o would be midlife-ish...

I'm in my late 70's and past midlife crisis. I have 3 GL 1000's I would sell to anyone on this website for 600 dollars each. All are stock, including grab bar, headlight and paint. All have clear titles, and were stored right. I was riding these bikes until health problems caught up with me a couple of years ago.

you might put this into the for sale forum. Pictures and years would be helpful as well anim-cheers1
