New 1979 GL1000 owner

Post by Snapper33 »

I've been riding for 40 years, but this is my first GW. It has an Ultra sidecar as well. I'm going to change the belts since there is no known history of when it was done last. All of the fluids will be changed as well, and then it's time to learn to drive a hack. I've lurked here for a while, and I'm now logged in and looking forward to learning a lot from everyone here.

Thanks everyone! Much appreciate the hellos.

ritalz, I'm a military member, currently overseas, but Idaho and Michigan are my home plates. The GW is currently in Idaho, waiting for me to bring her out of hibernation. I retire soon after 35 years, and my wife and I have many miles of riding ahead of us.

I’m normally not a fan of fairings on these old girls, but the Wixom fairing complements the sidecar so well. I have a feeling she’ll remain fairly unchanged from how she currently sits.

You’ve only got 19 years more military service than me so far. Man, that’s a good run. So are you the gentlemen’s gentleman of an officer or that crusty old NCO? I transitioned to the officer side a few years back myself. With that said, please don’t include a letter of reprimand in your response. ;)

But in all seriousness, best of luck overseas, get back swiftly to put on some miles, and welcome from South Dakota!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new bike purchase. I agree that the fairing looks great and that sidecar appears to be in immaculate condition. The color looks awesome on everything. Nice score!
