First time 'wing owner. 1975 GL1000
Hello NGWers,
I have just delivered payment for my first Goldwing - a 1975 GL1000 in candy blue/green.
It is a single-owner bike, until now of course. The original owner had several Goldwings actually. He passed away last year and his son has no interest in them, so they went up for sale. How it got to me is a bit of a winding story, but the important thing is I've got it
Anyway, it's quite beautiful and in excellent condition. It didn't take much to get the bike to fire up and idle. Some carb cleaning, plugs, general cleaning etc. Cylinder #1 is still running cooler than the rest, even after two carb rebuilds and a dunk in the ultrasonic cleaner, so that still needs to be sorted. The header is hot, but not hot like the rest. I also balanced the carbs, though I will need to re-do that after sorting #1 properly I expect.
New Gates timing belts are in the mail now and it won't be run again till they're installed. No sense in blowing it up before I get a chance to really give it some berries.
The fuel gauge doesn't seem to work, but I haven't had a proper look at it yet. I can't remember if the coolant temp gauge does or not, so it might just be a failed 7V regulator.
I also noticed it has a random switch hanging by the bars for the headlight. Perhaps there was a fairing on it at one point. That needs to be 'un done' as well.
More to come!
*note, in some of the photos there are aftermarket mufflers on it, which were not included in the sale. I do have some quite nice original pipes that came with it though. Happy about that!

Thanks! Cash handed over and registration in hand. 29,800 kilometers on the old girl. Hardly broken in I'd say. I'll be bringing it home Saturday morning. More photos to follow then...
