new entry

Post by Paola Zago »

good morning everyone, my name is Paola, and I write from Italy. I am a passionate girl of Japanese motorcycles, I have a Kawasaki 250 Samurai, a Kawasaki 350 S2, a GL 1000 LTD from 1976 and a yellow one from 1977. The LTD has 102 thousand km, the yellow only 56 thousand. With the Yellow I have a problem with the water pump, which loses from the hole under the engine, I bought a new pump from Old Wing Europe, but unfortunately loses again. Thanks to your posts I saw a revision system using a spare part for Honda CX Turbo, I ordered it from CMS.NL and fingers crossed. Thanks for your beautiful site, I have nothing to teach, but a lot to learn.

Welcome, Paola! I have nothing to add for water pump replacement (none of my three GL1000s have needed it). But, a general tip that the screws used are not Philips. They are JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) and really require JIS screwdrivers. I buy Motion Pro 1/4" drive hex JIS #2 and #3 bits from Amazon.

Welcome, Paola from the desert Southwestern US. Sounds like you have your hands full with motorcycles. (Lots of us here share the same sickness).

there are a couple of places a water pump can leak. bad internal seals, but you have a new pump. Crush washers and the back O-ring but that will cause oil out the weep hole. Finally, the larger O-ring around the body of the pump. It is REALLY easy to pinch that one putting it on. I number of us have done exactly that

A beautiful group of bikes! The three-cylinder Kawasakis built a reputation of having fantastic engine performance and acceleration. They suffered however from a steering geometry that led to serious "death wobble" upon deceleration and slight turning. Several riders wiped out on them at one place in Charleston, SC in the 1970's. I believe that addition of a simple steering damper would turn them into a wonderful machine. And, Oh! the sound of that engine accelerating!

Paola you have a very beautiful collection of motorcycles.
In the pictures you look so content and so happy.
In the background I also see something very special, a DS.
I am jealous.
