hello from OKC

#1

Post by okctec »

I have been wanting to strip a Goldwing for 10 years now. I could never find the good deals I hear about other people getting. anyway I bought a dead 1984 Aspencade. I have been studying the single carb conversion and it goes on for years and years.
The 2 Barrel 32DFT sounds great, then there is the 34 pict-3. Can somone please give me some good news? Something that is up to date? I've been through the Shop Talk and will go back there as needed

I really like everything I was reading about the 2 barrel. Then there are manifolds. I know you cant just hack something up without some R & D

Thank you guys in advance and you will see pics of this thing coming together.

Howdy from Texas. I recently did my own single carb conversion on my 83 GL1100. U used a Holley 5200 which is a copy of the Weber 32/36. So far I am happy with it. I have noticed however it wont take a full throttle all at once. You have to roll into it. I do like the instant start up in any weather. I have heard that they will ice up on you in cold weather. Below is a link to my conversion.

Okay, thank you every one of you. That is a lot of information to start with. Going to look into every one of those posts. My cousin doesn't think I dont need to remove the fuel tank but I think I will. And I will most likely start off with the original carb set up. Getting them all synced could be a pain but I will look at the link you posted as well. There are a lot of old posts on here also. There was talk of "Hotwing Glass" but I think they have retired because I cant find any info on them. I'll search for shocks on here also. Everything i am taking off of the aspencade could benefit someone I'm sure but its old technology and I cant see someone buying the old stuff but who knows. I'll probably trade is for something cheap or give it away. Pictures and posts coming brothers and sisters. Again thank you in advance for everything I am going to learn from you.

Okie, I did the SCC on a '75 ol'wing. I started my project in December last year. I also started with a bike that I believe was a donor bike for the POs '82. The carbs that came with the bike (but not installed, said to have been rebuilt but were not) were from a 1200 not a 1000. Bench tested and gas went everywhere. Rather than rebuild them I decided to go Single with a manufactured manifold and 34-3 carb. It will start and run, but not idle. I am pulling my hair out. Many of the folks that have made the change are not good at providing what they had to do along the way, and many of the threads are years old with no updates.

All that aside, I like the idea of a Single Carb and will continue to diagnose and correct the problems till I get it right. After all this is a project. I got other bikes to ride.

PM me if you would like to start a discussion,

Later, Bud...
Time for another Road Trip...
