Joplin tornado survivor
I'm not from Joplin, but my bike is. I was perusing the project bikes at West sixty cycles in Neosho Mo. a couple of weeks ago, and the old griz that works the salvage yard pointed this one out, and said how about this one? I looked at it and asked about the wreck. He said weren't no wreck it went through the tornado. The bags and fairing had seen much better days, but the bike came out virtually unscathed. I said what the hell, and took it home. I spent the rest of my day drinking Bud Ice,and stripping it down. Beautiful! Now a new set of belts, battery, oil and coolant, carb cleaning..... looks like I'm gonna need more beer. By the way old fart said the dude rode it around for a year after the storm all beat up. It's a 78. I'd put a picture up, but I don't know how. It's black, and gold.

Welcome! Great story and a great intro.
Pics would be nice. Before and after. We like pics.
(Don't recall ever having a tornado survivor grace these pages!)

Re: Joplin tornado survivor
Thanks, I've worked at a few bike shops over the years, and know these old bikes pretty well. I always said if I ever acquired one it would be nekkid when i was done. My main bike is an 06 Kingpin as the name implies. Both of these bikes are kind of little dreams of mine. Now I've got them. Woo Hoo!

78 Black and gold are my favorites. Mine is cool and will be putting her plates on next week so that I can enjoy her for the rest of the summer.

I think ol Griz had a soft spot for the old girl. He couldn't admit it though, hard core Harley guy-old school.

Re: Joplin tornado survivor
My 78 in the avatar was originally black and gold. Now it's just black. And chrome. And polished aluminum.

All the STX ad ons are in the back of my truck getting ready to go back to where I got them. I'm going to trade for a head light and ring. Maybe I can get him to throw in a speedo cable.

Got it to fire on some brake cleaner. Sounds good. Now to clean the carbs, change the oil,and most important put a set of belts on it!
