Hello everyone!!

Post by bwill166 »

Hi everyone. I am new to the GW family. I have been customizing bike for personal us for quite some time tho. I just sold my CX500 cafe and am looking to build a naked GW with a sidecar. I like to build different stuff than you would normally see around. I have my eyes on a 76 GL1000 with wire wheels. Seems to be missing some electronics on left side. Possibly reg/rec? anyone got a good pic of whats going on under the left cover?

I noticed that the pic I posted above has a few pieces missing. Below is a pic if my ‘75 with everything necessary. What is missing in it is the problematic reserve lighting unit that I removed and bypassed.

Bill, Welcome to NGW. There's a few folks who have hung sidecars on their GL1000s with great success. I'm slowly getting one on my 78. The front fork on the GL1000 have a bit of trail, which makes for great cornering on 2 wheels, but makes for tough steering on a hack.

Sandy, do you have a thread that shows how you set up the front fork to change the trail? That looks to be an interesting project without swapping forks for a leading link.

Goldwings don't accelerate, they gain inertia.

1978 GL1000 - almost stock - needs a head replaced, parts are ready to install!
1979 GL1000 - Winter project/parts bike - custom "Busted"
1983 GL1100 Standard- raised from the dead and back to organ donor status
And the newest acquisition, 1979 XS 650F to be a sidecar tug. crossy.gif
