Just wanted to say hey
Hello--
Never really made an intro post.
Picked up a pair of '78 GL1000's, clean title'd, for $500. I got them with the rumor that they both ran at one point. Right now I only have pics of the burgundy one, but the second '78 is black. Burgundy one came from kansas w/ 26k, black from arizona w/66k. Burgundy was all there, and the black one has its carbs removed, and supposedly the engine case is cracked (when it was running, the PO said it was dumping oil out the front of the motor).
So far I've done this to the burgundy one to get it somewhat roadworthy:
F+R caliper rebuild
F+R master rebuild
Front braided brake lines
New steel rear brake line
Swapped exhausts systems from black bike (burgundy was completely rotted)
Tires
Throttle cables
Rebuilt and patched bottom of gas tank w/ my welder
Coated gas tank w/ por15 epoxy kit
Timing belts
Radiator
Carb sync
Things I need to do:
wheel bearings
intake boots
carb rebuild(?)
water pump(?)
I would like to get the black one running and turn it into an ADV bike, but its carbs will need some love, and the same work done to it as I just did to the burgundy one. The throttle shafts are seized and one of the plastic buttons has been epoxied over.
Lucky for me, saber cycle is local to me, so if I need parts, I can always swing by after work and grab them.
I also engine swapped my '78 cx500 with a GL650 engine while I was waiting on parts for the goldwing! The only reason I wanted a '78 GL1000 was because of the comstars and the fact it'd match my cx500 lol.
