Hello NGW Club.
RevSlowMo here. I'm located in a small farm town about 30 minutes south of Portland.
I like occupying myself with projects (previously built some classic Fender & Marshall guitar amps) and recently picked up a 1981 GL1100 that was in sad shape. It's become the new project and my two teenage boys are excited (for now) to help me do some restoration on it. Pics of the original condition and a few days into disassembly below...
Here are a few condition highlights...
The good:
-title and bill of sale (VIN on title and frame match)
-the tires hold air
-it shifts in and out of neutral fine
-there's a lot of potential and I'm in no hurry
-it was cheap
-it rolled easily enough to load onto my truck
Not so good:
-no front brakes parts whatsoever (except for disks)
-no gauge cluster
-custom paint job by previous owner
-no side panels/covers
-left side crash bar and head cover is damaged
-throttle and clutch held together with wire ties and duct tape (along with soooo many other things)
-electrical system is a rats nest with about half of it stuffed into a shopping bag
-no head light or turn indicators, broken tail light
-a bunch of other stuff I don't know about yet
-right side tailpipe is held on with tape and a hose clamp
I'm not working toward an "original condition" restoration but more of a no frills "customization" so I'm open to aftermarket options.
Glad I found this forum because, while I'm mechanically inclined, this will be my first deep dive restoration and I will need the knowledge and resources that exists here.
Looking forward to getting to know all of you a bit better.

Re: Newbie Introduction: RevSlowMo
Thanks for the welcome and for pointing me towards ShopTalk and parts sourcing suggestions. Already reading through options for the carb rebuild so I’ll probably need to shift this bike rebuild over to some other part of the forum to report/post the progress.
