I can't imagine mounting a GL1800 swing arm on any of the older bikes without major frame modifications. The GL1800 swing arm is a massive single sided forged aluminum piece that bears no relationship whatsoever to the early wing design. If you want I can post a picture of the GL1800 swing arm takeoff from my wife's trike so you can estimate the difference.

1800 SWINGARM CONVERSION

#10

Post by WINGMANDWN »

Before I get into this topic, let me first thank you all for your concerns regarding the recent lost of my son Scott. I am back home but really not back in the saddle. Thank you all, Winston
SWINGARM CONVERSION..............PLEASE WAIT A MONTH..............
I have worked on this project for two years now. It won't work with the stock tire on the goldwing. No matter how much cutting you do..A TON OF IT!......you will not get the rear wheel to center on the frame. It has to go 1 1/4 inch to the right to be centered and 16" wheels will not clear the calipers. The reason for all the cutting is the massive size/width of the 1800 motor and frame compared to the narrow 1000 motor/frame. I have found a 17" single sided wheel off of a late model Triumph that I am just weeks away from cutting into the the rear end of the stock 1800 hub. All information will be made availabe to the club when finished. I will try to get photos this week of where I am at now but bike week is coming up.............so!???!!!!?! regarding the question why would you want to do this to a naked wing.........it's called...SICK...INSANE...IT'S CALLED............UNDERGROUND!!!!
IT'S VITAL TO FLY WITH A FELLOW WING MAN......

I was thinking along these lines and looked to see if others had done, or were doing it. It's an old thread now, but I wondered if anything came of it?
