OK, been quite awhile, but although it's not completely complete, I have the old girl running...

Topwingnut, runs great, but very noisy! I removed 2/3 of the baffles and the intake is louder!

Yes upside down does reverse it.
But backwards also reverses it.
It goes the right direction. But still does have some custom machine work done inside.
Yep and loud too. Cold start. No choke. Have to force warm up. Working on fuel injection though.

Well that's what I'm interested in finding out .., what did you have to do to get it flowing in the correct direction ?

After a bit of googling, I've learned that in a VW transaxle you can flip the differential ring gear over to the other side of the input pinion, reversing the final drive's direction.

Well I guess the u tube link didn't work.
The rotation is correct.
Backward mounting make it the wrong way.
Upside would too.
Both at the same time is reversing the reversing.
So the rotation is correct.
It is an unusual way of doing it though.
The dub ring and pinion is helical NOT hypoid.
The case is symmetrical.
Most normal people just pull the diff and ring out and install it in from the other side. This puts the ring on the other side of the pinion. Simple reverse direction trans.
But....
I wanted low ground clearance like motorcycle. I did not want the normal car clearance. Inverting the box put my engine 6 inches closer to the ground than a normal dub engine would be.
I have a whole 3-1/2 inches under the drain plug.....unloaded.

So to run it upside down you have to make it oil.
Drill some oil ports, plug off some others.
Drill drain backs.
