Tell us more about the speedo, the picture does not tell the whole story I bet.

For my shelter, I started by cleaning up the surface where the fiberglass would be laid. In retrospect, I should have allowed for more overlap from the new glass to the original glass. I later stripped the whole tank before panting. I built up some rough cardboard with tape and hot glue.
I then built up plaster and shaped it using rasps and sandpaper.
I brought the plaster surface up to the same level as the original tank, then feathered the edges of the glass once I laid it. For a release, I used paste wax first, to fill the pores of the plaster, then a little vasoline cut with mineral spirits for a greasy barrier.
At this point, it took a fair amount of Bondo to smooth this sucker out, since I wasn't the best at laying the glass.
Primed with self-etching primer and good to go!

Its encouraging to see someone overcome the false shelter issue on the 1200s. And you did it very well. Like the bike
