Hope that is not the final position for that intake, might be a little difficult to change plugs!

Re: GL 1100 Cut, weld, wrench then ride
Easter, thanks for following along.
I made an idle screw taken from an old dirt bike carb. Got a plan for the throttle cable routing and bell crank. I ordered a push-pull throttle tube and need to wait until it arrives so I can finish mounting the cable bracket at the throttle body. I had a set of GXSR throttle bodies with cables, the GXSR throttle cables look like they will fit perfect, the bell crank fit after I persuaded it with a grinder, drill press and spot weld.

I stopped by NAPA today. I bought these timing belts with confidence after reading the NGW shop talk section on belts.

Re: GL 1100 Cut, weld, wrench then ride
Thank you Eric H.
I noticed, you, like me, don't have any BMW parts on your GL. I will be traveling to Daytona FL tomorrow for my work. I just happened to be looking at CraigsList and found a basket case BMW Airhead in South Carolina, I plan to stop and look at it, only about 1 hour out of my way... I know what happens next, same thing that always happens. So, the AstroWing may get some BMW parts or I may have another project for the already full storage shed.

Well, I left North Carolina this morning with my pickup truck bed empty. When I arrived in Florida it was full of BMW R90 parts.

I have a friend with a BMW, that's close enough for my marriage.

Eric - ask your friend if he would like to save me from a 2-3 year project?

Re: GL 1100 Cut, weld, wrench then ride
The computer needs to know the temperature of the air going into the engine. I have thought about how to do this for awhile. I came up with a way to put the sensor inside the air filter and keep it hidden. It would have been much easier to just drill into the metal top, but it would bug me every time I saw it. The brass sensor had a pipe thread on it, I was able to re-thread it 5/8 x 18 for a jam nut. I made a bracket with a nut sert because I would not be able to get a wrench inside.

Re: GL 1100 Cut, weld, wrench then ride
I finished the throttle cable bracket today. I went to Lowe's and bought a piece of angle steel, used it. I am using a throttle grip and cables from a 2006 Suzuki GSXR 750. The throttles are working great but the cables are not quite long enough to be able to turn the handle bars all the way. I guess I will send these cables to Motion Pro and have some made a few inches longer.

Re: GL 1100 Cut, weld, wrench then ride
I still have a lot of things to make before I can start on the wiring but at least I can see the progress. Here is picture of my cam drive belts and how I was able to squeeze in a crank trigger sensor and an alternator drive pulley.

I mounted two of the three relays today. For a bike as big as this, things get tight when you are trying to keep everything out of sight. Good thing the Micro-Squirt ECU is so small.
