I just got off the phone, need to take some measurements when I get home later. If they don't have any as parts of existing kits they say $1500-2000 for a one off set. If that's the case I'll just stick with the bolts!Oldewing wrote:Copper sure is pretty. ( If NGW need some thing to mount for an award someday.....)
Alwing17 has done all the leg work on studs, seems to me IIRC that is was way costly to do.

Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FIT build
Looks like I might be able to get a set of studs/nuts/washers from ARP for about $175
I did find a company that makes stainless o rings that do not require machining, which may be a good option
No mention, but I've been reading about it...maybe when I get the heads checked for flatness I should get them cut for orings? Sounds like you can do the head or block with the same results...robin1731 wrote:Did the gasket maker say anything about o-ringing the cylinder?

Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FIT build
Don't know about the stainless O-rings. If you get the head done you'll need to either take the block in with them or have very precise measurements for them to go by. The wire should be centered around the sleeve. On an inline engine we do the block. Easier to do though.irishcarbomb wrote:Looks like I might be able to get a set of studs/nuts/washers from ARP for about $175

Will be interesting to hear if you can get the studs and everything else for that price, and if they will fit. Please keep us up to date.

placed the order with ARP, should ship next week. also ordered new timing belts and idler pulleys to rebuild the tensioners.
looking at getting a set of stainless o-rings from headgasket.com that don't require machining of the block or head. they are abrasive on one side which locks into the copper.

Did you check with Cometic too? That would give us a couple options. I use Cometic gaskets on my performance stuff.

I didn't check with them, I googled "custom copper head gaskets" and emailed one of the first ones that came up.

Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FIT build
Got started on the 1-3 head today, and drilled out the tensioner brackets.
Whoever was in the head last had some sealant around the cam seal, so that'll be replaced as well.
Going to do one head at a time so I don't have to unhook all my fuel lines. Studs should be shipping sometime this week.

Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FIT build
got the studs today, came out to $152 and change...looks like it's going to work. only problem was that the studs won't thread into the block with the dowel pins in place. hopefully if i get them out i'll be able to put them in the head and they'll fit over the studs once they're installed.
too cold out to mess with it right now.

Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FIT build
FINALLY got the stainless o-rings for the copper head gasket...they do not require machining of the head or block.
I'll take some pictures before I install, but I'm hoping to get most of the work done this week. Best case I'm running again by Thursday evening, most likely next week.
Once she's back up and running boost will still be at 8psi...but once everything proves to be holding i'll be upping it to 15psi.
