Speaking of long absence Roady? Great progress and good idea to do what you know well with the frame and avoid the papers we do not know well. Uschi has a great set of painted panels.

Harald, I have no idea how I missed your 2016 beautiful, heart-rending story. But I have just sat and read every last word and marvelled at your trip.
I live in Glasgow and I am ashamed to say that you have probably seen more of Scotland than I have! There is a good possibility that I will be fit enough to ride again by next summer ( Earlier this year I fractured my spine and broke an arm at the wrist which is giving me some problems). If so , I would love to accompany you and your lady when you return.
If you can give me any idea where your Loch Lomond rememberance stones are located, I will go and lay a flower in memory of Sabine.

Re: Building a café racer called „Uschi“
First, Old Fogey thank you for your words.
I wish you a speedy recovery and quick recovery of your bones and spine.
I would be honored if you would like to join us on our journey. We arrive in Newcastle on the 23st of June and want to spend the night in the Isle of Arran. We then drive via Crossaig and Tarbert towards Loch Lomand. There we will stay from the 24nd to the 25rd of June at the Shandon Farmhouse. Of course I want to look for the place where I built the rememberance stones.
The rememberance stones at Loch Lomond are here:
https://www.google.de/maps/place/56%C2% ... 6829?hl=en
At Millarochy Bay, turn left along the beach until you see the picture here. Then a little away from the water stood the rememberance stone
And here a picture of the place where they stood ... and the map.
sorry for the big picture
It would make me very happy if you would lay a flower there for Sabine.
We will certainly read us until June. And if it allows your health, I would be very happy about an accompaniment.
and sorry for my bad English
greeting
Harald

Very pleased to see you back, Harald! I was asking here about you quite some time ago. You are a master storyteller with a very human story to tell.
I think I speak for all of us when I say I am happy the story continues...

Re: Building a café racer called „Uschi“
Harald,
Thank you for sharing this story. What started out as an inspiration for those of us working on our first Goldwing has turned out to be an inspiration for living life to its fullest and loving with all we have. I hope you continue to share your experiences so that others will perhaps be more motivated to get out there and enjoy the ride - on their bikes and in every moment we all have.
God bless you always.

Re: Building a café racer called „Uschi“
Hello,
today I was finally able to work on Uschi.
First I had to mount a infrared heating cause my workshop is cold an the winter ist coming. For an aging man it is better to have warm fingers and warm tools
I found in Poland a set of nice handlebar switches. They are made of alloy an coloerd in red, like the old switches of our Japanese motorcycles. I like this kind of switches.
the left one (the grip rubbers still need to be renewed)
the right one
And I mounted a radial brake clylinder from an Suzuki GSXR. Together with a steel braided hose (hope this is the right name) I hope Uschi will get a better frontbrake. Last month i ride my old Beemer through Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands... two days and only rain. My beemer has a double duplex drumbreak and when the water comes into the drum break... the break will be out of order till the sun shines again and all the water ist gone. That's why I want to have a real brake on Uschi.
Last week I ordered new ignition coils and a new headlight. There is still so much to do.
Greetings
Harald

Re: Building a café racer called „Uschi“
the next thing i could finish today is the rear light and the rear winkers. The old Wing has a big rearlight and the winkers looks like a soup ladle. But the older CB750 had a smaller rearlight and very nice winkers.
I found an holder in Austria. But this owner had cut the tubes for the turn signals. That's why I had to weld new ones. Painted in a friendly black an mounted the Stanley Rearlight with an yellow breaklight and the new turn signals. Looks much better than the old one.
In China I bought new headlight brakets. Made of alloy and fits to the 37mm forktubes. Well, the color is not for everyone. But hey it's GoldWing
I want to attach the front turn signals to the headlight bracket. The tube is still made black.
And I found two Koni shock absorbers because the old ones were worn out. The Koni's are not new.
So closing time for today... time to look for the wiring, buy cables and from Wednesday I have holidays until New Year's Eve. So time for Uschi.
The next year is the year with Uschi
I wish everyone a happy Advent season
Greetings

Love the headlight brackets. How long are the Koni shocks? Look like a nice option.
