Continued...
Here's the fins in the slots before welding. Haven't drained the oil but this is the new cover on top of the original. Ended up going with thicker plate as I didn't think the 1/8" would be good.
So the top and bottom fins are 1/4" thick and the middle 3 are 3/16".

Nice work. I like both the size difference from top to bottom and the curvature of each fin.
A nice artistic touch.

[quote="wog"]Good point.
The powder coating won't be the "seal" as I will weld the back side of all fins inside the cover.
Now that I have a better idea of your plan I think it should work out fine

Now that's a beautiful bike!
This will never measure up to something like that, but it's funny that I was wanting to do a front fender plate.
Great to keep these old 'Wings flying on down the road.

I like that curvy touch. That should carry the theme real well.

Honda offered a front fender vertical plate for the UK market back in the 70s.

You don't need to drain the oil to remove the valve covers. If the bike is on the center stand or on a lift table the oil level will be well below the bottom of the valve covers. You may get a tiny bit when you first take one off but not even enough to worry about having a pan ready. Just a rag or paper towel.wog wrote:snip...........

Re: Wog's '78 Wild Child build
Ok, you caught me.
The bike is buried back in the shop with too much stuff around it for it to be put on the centerstand.
I need to swap it's spot with the '76 yellow on the lift table, just haven't got the modivation to move everything.
See, told you guys I'm lazy

Sorry, noduke182 wrote:Any progress?
Kinda put this one on the backburner and have been working on the '76 Sulpher trying to get it ready for the "Vintage International Swap Meet and Bike Show" in Eustis Florida this weekend. The VJMC club is going to be there and I was going to bring both the '75 and '76, but looks like just the '75 is going.
Hopefully back on this in a week or so.
I did purchase another set of Harley mufflers that are a little shorter then the pair I had. I'm thinking to match the 4 seperate intake stacks, I'll go with 4 mufflers.
One long and one short on each side.
All fleamarket finds. Total cost of all four, almost brand new, mufflers was $35.
Great to keep these old 'Wings flying on down the road.

Re: Wog's '78 Wild Child build
Dug the bike out from the back of the shop and trial-installed the custom valve covers.
Need to clean up the welds and powdercoat 'em, but here's some pics... I think I'll add a custom plate on the top fin.
This '75 plate is just taped on, but this is the idea...
