Thanks Rod. Will do.

I flushed the water ports on the cylinders and got most the junk out of the oilers. Plan on flushing everything again on bench when I get the head and water tubes back on.

The o-ring I got that goes around the oil seal Behring the water pump pops off when I stretch it around the groove. He Jed all the seals to make sure I used the right one. Any suggestions?

Lads that o ring that you are have trouble with try putting a little bit of rubber
glue or some rtv in the groove and let it get tacky before you install the
new o ring then stretch it so it fits the groove and then install and
hold it there with some tape until the glue will hold it in the groove
also when you do the front cover you might want to do this on all of the o ring
it makes the job easier to do and do not forget the little o ring at the
top of the front cover hope this helps

So, got the oring to stick long enough to get the engine cover on after replacing the water pump. Tightening the last bolt to 9 ft-lb and the lower 3.25" bolt snapped. Going to extract it today but I was wondering where to get a new one. Any help?

9 lbs-ft is right for a 6mm bolt. I would go to my bolt bin and grab one out of the "extras" that I have. ;) I would think a hardware store might have one that is at least close enough to use.

I stated working on the bolt and noticed it had a small hole(air pocket) in it. Must have been the problem, just lucky I guess.

Trying to get a flat surface on the face of the bolt to work with. May have to drill and tap it.

If you are in good with your dealer one of their mechanics probably has a bolt collection. ;)

Drilled and tapped the old hole. It's a little loose so I am going to go easy on torque. Grabbed the bolt from the silver 75, deal with that later.

no, they are a steel threaded insert. the intial kit is a bit pricey as it has the proper drill and tap, but the actual inserts are relatively cheap

thanks again. i will log this away while I test the engine. I hope to have the pulleys on this afternoon. Waiting on orings for the top end water system.

Will wire-up enough to get the engine started, check for any leaks, and check torque on head bolts.

Still planning on Dyna ignition/coils and looking at a 84 hyd clutch.

More pics later today.

For 6mm or larger bolts I use heli-coils. Less money than time-serts and I have very good luck with them. The helicoils are steel.
