Re: Australian, 79 custom - Redback
I love the new front end forks you are throwing on! And it seems like you're flying on this build. Did you get a different stearing-stem for the conversion?? That has always been a big question for me when thinking about upgrading the front end..

Re: Australian, 79 custom - Redback
Hey guys,
Sorry for the delayed response.
So far the triple clamps did not have to be modified. Just replacement bearings with gixer ID and Goldwing OD.
I have a slight inkling that when I go for proper assembly, I might have to shave a fraction of the steering head.
I haven't fitted the bearings as yet because the mods to the front aren't complete.
As far as gixer front and Goldwing wheel: this needed new collars to fit the original axle to the new forks and offsets to fit the risks to the original wheel.

Just a quick one as well, I haven't given up in the Weber mod from randaak, but have fitted the originals just to get the bike on the road. The preparation needed for the Weber's can be done at any time

I'm with you on that. I also have a 40 IDF conversion pending. I keep hitting snags on my "used" set. Missing bits here and there.hazchem wrote:Just a quick one as well, I haven't given up in the Weber mod from randaak, but have fitted the originals just to get the bike on the road. Re: Australian, 79 custom - Redback
Hey all a quick clarification to my earlier comment about the forks.
The whole front end is:
Gsxr750 triple clamps
Hayabusa gen 2 forks
Hayabusa gen 2 discs
Original comstar wheel
Custom mounting brackets for discs and collars for the original axle

Some more progress for everyone.
Leaky fuel line meant had to kill the run. Waiting to get a replacement.

Re: Australian, 79 custom - Redback
The bike is almost ready!
Just electrical to be sorted and fit all the remaining fairings.
Came across a little mismatch between the original wheel/tyre radius and the hayabisa front guard, nothing a little mounting ingenuity won't fix...

Re: Australian, 79 custom - Redback
Hey everyone just a quick update.
Was nearly ready for my inaugural test ride on the road, brakes ready, tyres ready, engine ready and running.
The next day I have a heavy knocking and it appears I have lost cylinder 2. There is fuel coming out the exhaust of that cylinder
I have got new ignition components, dynatek coils and NGK spark plugs.
So back to stripping the carbs to find out why

Re: Australian, 79 custom - Redback
So it's been a few weeks of hair pulling, screaming and frustration with engine tuning.
Currently waiting for a Dynamic S timing unit.
The current one does not seem to fire properly when setting the timing.
Just a waiting game now

Re: Australian, 79 custom - Redback
Thanks Cody James
It's been a long road, now I'm just itching to get it finished. Just tidy up the electrical and get a road worthiness certificate

Here it is actually running on its own power...
No leaks or knocks!
I'm extatic. Some minor finalisation and then it's of for road worthiness.
