Australian, 79 custom - Redback
Hi all and thanks for the add!!!
I have recently been gifted a 79 GL1000 here in Australia.
When I got her the brakes were seized and it ran rough. But at least the motor was seized.
I have a few plans including modern front end, computerized electronics, something understated but different I'm going for black frame black engine and red highlits.
I'm sure I will drive you all nuts with my questions but bear in mind its my first build ever.
Its gonna be quite a ride!!!!

Welcome! Gifted is an excellent opening investment. Change your belts.
I need to remember to keep my expectations tiny so I don't end up so whiny.

Welcome from the UK, looks like you made a great start, +1 on changing the belts, and don't be afraid to ask whatever you like. This is the best place for help and advice.

Welcome from wherever I live. And because I'm schizophrenic on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays, you'll receive two welcomes; and that's a fer shur maybe. In the parlance of a teenager removed from current jargon, "This site rocks."
If there is one thing I have learned throughout this process it is this: Check your respirator for spiders before you put it on.

Welcome from San Diego. I think I spotted a bit of black paint on your engine.

Re: New member new project, 79 custom
Hey all,
Started putting the engine together and realised I am missing transmission rings:
2xA and 1xB (holds the main shaft in place at the engine half)
Any suggestions?
I have tried CMSNL and various other parts sites and none available.
Part numbers are:
2x 13495-300-000
1x 13496-300-000
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I am happy to modify other parts.

Snip
I may have missed something. The Bike had a whole engine on it. It was not seized. Why did you take it apart? Why are you missing parts if you took it apart? Not being critical, just wondering?hazchem wrote:Hey all,
