Custom wheel colour

#1

Post by UK_Andy »

Im going to be painting my Gl1100 very soon but I just cannot decide on the wheel colour.

The paint is going to be a flat green, kinda military(ish) and the seat is tan/brown kinda distressed vintage look but the wheels I just cannot make my mind up

Hey UK Andy

These wheels are pretty massive.
I would paint them black to make the tire look thicker and the wheel smaller.
You could even go 2 tones but painting the silver ring black and the rest another color.
I went with a matte black for my front wheel and I really like the look.

Why not a brown that would highlight your seat?

I painted mine red to match the red on the bike! With the colors you are talking of using black would be best I think.

Ok, heres an idea. Paint the whole wheel black and where at the moment its bare metal colour on the raised part of the spokes, paint that bit green to match the panels?

That could work.

Satin olive green for the tank and panels? I've seen the beautiful seat colour, a lovely kind of sand tan. So how about a dark satin bronze for the wheels? You could also do those parts on them that are currently silver in a lighter shade, or even silver/gray to keep the details alive. If the wheels get done all one colour they may look too 'heavy'.

My GL1000 LTD is Dk Green with a tan seat and looks great with Gold rims. It should look just as good with darker shaded of olive drab. I am considering the combo when I do a respray.

I don't have any pics that capture the seat, rim and paint colors all well. Its a Dark Metallic green, with tan/brown seat and the original LTD rims are a sort of pale gold anodizing. Its how I bought the bike and I fell in love with it and continue to get compliments on the color combo. "It's very British, baby!"

You can also see it in my profile pic.
