Looks good. Now scratch it up.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

If you thought getting the engine out of the frame was hard, wait till you start putting it back in!ericheath wrote:Looks good. Now scratch it up.
Just kidding. Put the frame on the engine before you do anything else. Tape is always a good thing to put on those shiny frame rails to protect them.

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
Hey guys! I was pulling teeth to get a friend to help me drop the engine into the frame but one finally showed up! Found a muuuch easier way to get the engine in. After taking off the necessary add one (oil filter, radiator connectors, etc..) I simply prompted the engine standing sideways and while the friend balanced the engine on it's side, I put the frame around d the engine. Went with the idea of work smarter, not harder. Frame weight < Engine weight. Haha.
Luckily only a few scratches occurred, nothing a little nail polish can't clean up!
Sorry some of these photos turn upside down. Definitely not intentional, but I don't know how to fix the issue on my phone =/ (UPDATE: Problem Fixed!)

Looking really nice. It is easier to put the frame on the engine but it is even easier if it isn't upside down.

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
I always put the frame over the engine. You don't have to lay it on it's side though. Just put the engine in the normal upright position and set the frame over it. One man job.

Found out how to straighten out all of the photos, so I just went through and corrected all of them! Hopefully making it a bit easier to view, Cheers!

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
I'm about to get down with some of the electrical work here very soon, and I have to admit I am a bit timid on wiring because I do not have a lot of experience with it.
This weekend I decided to start cleaning some of the older parts up. Thankfully they were mostly just covered in dust and grime. Their was little rust that I wire-wheeled off and did some touch up paint.

Looking good. RE electrical wiring-just jump in with both feet. Two or three weeks from now it will look simple.

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
I began assembling back some wiring and you were right Easter, just jump in with both feet and so far it doesn't seem to bad. Whoever had this bike before me wrapped the entire harness in electrical tape. I am pondering the idea of once I get an area set up with the right placement, taking the tape off and putting on some shrink wrap to clean in up a bit, but that is just a thought.Easter wrote:Looking good. Main question I have right now... Does anyone know of a link on this forum of someone doing a step by step of wiring? I know I have the easy stuff in right now and it's about to get a little more complicated. I've looked for a bit, but when you put in "wiring harness" that opens up nearly every forum on here, haha. I'm sure theirs at least one out there! Im going to look through the guru's corner and see if I can dig anything up!

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
I don't recall any step-by-step instructions, there are so many variables. Just study the large color wiring diagrams, link at the bottom left of the Shop Talk forum page and "all will be made clear". And ask any questions, someone will know the answer.

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
It's surprising sometimes how nicely these old parts clean up. 40 years of dust and grime must protect the paint

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
Hey everyone! I have a quick update! I started to notice that when I started putting the bike back together that some nuts and bolts were missing and I also wanted to be sure on everything I was putting on the bike was in the correct place. That being said, I always search craigslist for random deals.
This is where I found a GEM! A running 1978 Honda GoldWing put up for the high price of $600.
Ended up only being able to talk him down to $550, but he wouldn't go any lower, but what a steal!!! Easily worth at least $1200
The guy replace a bunch of cables and hoses as well. It has small issues, but overall, it is THERE!
I was originally going to use it as a parts bike, but every time I look at it, it's getting harder and harder to even think about doing something like that! Possibly use some parts to replace later? It is still in great condition, and it starts right up! We will see if I just fix it up and clean it up to re-sale it, or if I will make a GoldWing II project. But, if any of you guys are near the bay area and are interested, feel free to comment below!
